| Biography
Cathy Quiel, noted
watercolorist, captures her images through a vivid application of
pigment. Cathy enjoys the sharp play that light has on objects and
the resulting radiating warmth and shadows. She captures this light
through a bold and enlivened transparent style which is uniquely hers.
Her surrounding world is the basis for her subject matter and her
loose painterly style captures the essence and mood of her subjects.
She was a featured seminar lecutar at Watercolor West 2003 at Riverside Art museum and will be conducting a workshop for the San Dieo Watercolor Society in 2004. It is the feeling
of optimism, light and glowing translucency that the patrons of Cathy
Quiels paintings truly appreciate. Her paintings are represented
in numerous corporate and private collections including the executive
offices of the California State University at Long Beach and in the
permanent collections of the cities of Cypress and Los Alamitos. Cathy
is a graduate of California State University at Long Beach where she
received a Bachelor of Arts degree with honors. Her paintings have
been published in THE BEST OF WATERCOLOR III, ARTISTIC TOUCH, ARTISTIC
TOUCH II, ARTISTIC TOUCH III and Montecito Magazine. Her work was
exhibitied at the Riverside Art Muesum, Watercolor West Exhibition
and selected as a finalist in the Strathmore Paper Corporation Competition
in the year 2001.
Although California
based, Cathy Quiels talents are not restricted to the West Coast
where she teaches through the Santa Barbara Community College, Schott
Center. Instructing watercolor workshops have taken her to the Caribbean,
Bermuda, Mexico, Alaska, Malta and France. Cathy is known to her students
as an enthusiastic instructor with a true love of sharing her subject
matter. Her relaxing warmth and good humor combined with informative
and organized teaching skills have won Cathy her students respect
and friendship. |
